He may still think of her from time to time and wrote this song in honor of her? I'm not sure, just my interpretation folks. Comment: Chords in brackets are kinda optional, but they go well along the melody :). My other theory is that Vienna could've been someone he was close with and they grew apart as they got older, eventually, they stopped talking and lost contact. If he addressed her that way it was like him asking "are you still swinging and singing up there? Like you used to?" and almost hopeful that she is and that she's happy. I was so far out of place Watching those stars in outer space Cuz I am so far from where you are There s a light show out my window somewhere way up there Dear Vienna, are you breathing Dear Vienna, are you dreaming Dear Vienna, we were. It makes a lot more sense to me if that were the case, but it's also a way more depressing way of thinking about it. Dear Vienna, are you swinging Dear Vienna, we were happy like the shades of May when we got carried away. I thought maybe it was someone who passed because of the lyrics "I was so far out of place watching the stars in outer space cause' I am so far from where you are." and then maybe the "light show outside of his window" was him imagining her being some sort of sparkling night star in the sky and not truly gone. ![]() It seems (to me anyway) he is addressing this to someone he knew and cared for and that either passed away or maybe they merely grew apart and haven't seen each other in a while. The tune is quite bouncy and upbeat but the lyrics are pretty sad, and it seems to be about someone who was depressed after a difficult break-up but is now. ![]() ![]() This song has such nice and imaginative lyrics but also portrays something nostalgic and sad.
